IRS VITA / TCE Program
February 2 – April 7, 2024
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) Programs offer free tax help for low to moderate income individuals and families. Assistance in Spanish is available by appointment only.
VITA offers free tax help to people who need assistance in preparing their tax returns, including:
People who generally make $75,000 or less
Persons with disabilities; and
Limited English-speaking taxpayers
TCE offers free tax help, particularly for people 60 years of age and older, specializing in questions about pensions and retirement-related issues unique to seniors.
IRS VITA/TCE return preparation sites are operated by certified volunteers. Services are offered onsite and virtually. Onsite operating hours are limited and by appointment only.
VITA / TCE sites will not prepare:
Outside of NY income
Sale of Home (Form 1099-S)
Schedule D “Capital Gains and Losses”: Crypto, E-Currency, Investments, Sale of Stocks (1099B)
Credits for Sick Leave and Family Leave for Certain Self-Employed Individuals (Form 7202)
Form SS-5 (request for Social Security Number)
Form 8814 (child taxed at parent's tax rate)
Form 8606 (non-deductible IRA)
Form SS-8 (determination of worker status for purposes of federal employment taxes and income tax witholding)
Form W-7 application for Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
Returns with casualty/disaster losses

Please be sure to bring everything needed to prepare the return: photo ID, social security card/ taxpayer idententification number (ITIN) for tax payers and dependents, and all tax documents.
Please be advised that you may not be immediately served. Your patience and understanding are appreciated.
Taxpayer must be present at the time of their scheduled appointment. Late arrivals will not be honored.
Virtual Tax Preparation Service:
Do you have a personal computer or laptop, with a webcam and secured internet access?
Are you familiar with virtual telecommunication software?
Do you have a valid and secure email address?
Do you have basic computer skills?
Do you know how to download and upload pictures and/or documents from your smartphone, laptop, or tablet?
If you answered YES to all five of these questions, you may be eligible for free virtual tax preparation services!
