PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Goodie Group (GG) was conceived to help young adults build service/trade skills that will allow them to obtain skilled service positions or create businesses of their own in the hospitality and/or culinary arts industry. GG strives to meet the academic, social, and cultural needs of young people in underserved communities through the skill-based training program, entrepreneurship training, and business development it offers. In doing so, we also aim to promote healthier eating choices.

FALL PROGRAM – 8 WKS. / 6 MTHS.

Starts October 23, 2023 Ends March 29, 2024

Open Enrollment begins on September 18, 2023

SouthEast Jamaica - Bright Start Early Learning Academy, 108-10 Sutphin       Blvd., Jamaica, NY

• East Harlem - Church of Resurrection, 325 E. 101 Street, NY, NY

ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS:

• 16-24 years of age

• Low income

• Interest in culinary & pastry arts


KEY ACTIVITIES:

• Develop a business plan

• Create an original recipe

• Contribute to custom recipe book

GG provides culinary and pastry arts programs for young girls and adults (16-24 years old) with a complete curriculum, including:

CERTIFICATIONS RECEIVED: CPR | First Aid | Food Handler

The need for representation in the culinary arts industry is highlighted by these statistics:

• The most common race/ethnicity for Chefs and head cooks is White.

• Women of color represent less than 7% of all chefs and head cooks in the US.

• Only 17% of restaurant owners are women.
